New Beginnings!

It is with great pleasure that I am able to say: I AM NO LONGER UNEMPLOYED!!!

Yes, that is one huge statement, something which most people would not have even wanted you to know that they were unemployed in the first place. However, through unemployment I have learnt so many lessons and the biggest being it is just another phrase in life.

I am working as a Marketing Executive at Clanwilliam Group.

For the past six week I have been working at Clanwilliam Group and I spent my induction week at the Clanwilliam Group Headquarters in Ireland, and I had an amazing time. My week mainly consisted of informative meetings, introducing myself to various people, understanding the organisation a lot more, understanding my role and where I sit in the organisation and then asking a lot (and I mean a lot) of questions. On my first day, I received a goodie bag with stationary, notebooks and a branded t-shirt below. Yes, it is a small gesture but it made a huge impact me and made me feel valued.

My position as a Marketing Executive is literally my ideal position. I get to cover all aspects of marketing including CRM processes, segmentation and targeting, data analysis, assisting in events, marketing strategies, online marketing , e-mail marketing, liaising with agencies and much more. The scope of the role is exactly what I was looking for and I am so lucky and happy that I have a great job. Not only this, but everyone in the marketing team is different, where we have a range of strengths and weaknesses, so we are able to complement one another.

This is only the beginning of my time at Clanwilliam Group and I am excited to see how everything grows. It is such a privilege to work for an expanding and forward-thinking organisation, where I feel part of the team and I’m able to do what I love – Marketing!! I’ll keep you all updated on my process.

P.S. Sorry this is 5 weeks late, I have been full stream ahead since I started… but that’s for another post!

Until next time,

Alexandrya-Carmen Mbu

Why Follow Your Passion?

Following recent events that have happened with loved ones and myself, I have started thinking about life, my career and what I am truly passionate about.

When we’re younger we were all asked ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?‘ and most of us replied with a firefighter, a dancer, an athlete, a teacher, a doctor, a police officer, a vet,  an astronaut or an actor/actress. As we grow older our ‘dream job’ tends to change based on what we enjoy at school; our influences including friends, teachers, family and the media; the experiences we have and; our strengths and weaknesses to name a few. Following this, some of us go to university knowing exactly what we want to do and who we want to be and some of us go to university as a way to figure it out. After finishing university, we hope to our dream job, work our way up the hierarchy and become who we want to be. However, that isn’t always the case…

For me, I always wanted to be in advertising and marketing ever since I was a little girl. I was glued to the television watching the adverts and looking at them in magazines, coming up with my own ideas and thinking about how they were created. I went to university knowing exactly just that and did everything that I could that would help me pursue my career. When I finished university, I slightly lost site of that as most students can do – chasing a job and wanting to get out of debt.  Yes, I enjoyed what I was doing (I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t), but it didn’t fill me with excitement when things were not going well or make me want to dig deep in order to succeed. I decided that what I wasn’t doing wasn’t for me and it was time to be true to me and do what I was passionate about, however that may not be for everyone and I am not saying it is. Life is about doing what makes you happy while making a career and a living out of it. Whether you have a day job and have to work evenings to focus on your passion, or give up your day job and throw yourself into your passion – it’s up to you! It’s not an easy choice and one we should take lightly, but it is a choice that can make a huge difference.

Along my journey I found new passions and interests. I have always been involved in sport. I was a cross country runner, member of the netball, rounders AND athletics teams at school. I re-ignited this interest in sport when I started going to the gym and lifting weights. In fact, I even competed in my first bikini fitness competition. It was an incredible experience which required resilience, dedication, hard-work and motivation, and definitely something I plan to do again.

I also love to help others through difficult situations and be a listening ear, whether it’s a friend making a career choice, someone going through a bad break-up or anything else… I just love to help people. This passion is something that goes deeper than just giving advice, in particular I want to help young girls overcome sexual, mental and emotional abuse, allowing them to know it does not hinder or stop them in any way. It’s a topic close to my heart and something I know that I want to (and feel that I need to) pursue. How will I be doing it? That’s yet to be decided but I know that it is a situation that must be tackled.

Last, but probably not least…. I love to model and it is something that I will continue to do no matter what. Modelling has always been an interest of mine but I was told I’m too short, too fat or too dark to be a model, however I never let that stop me. The first time I modeled I felt on top of the world and everything seemed right, having my makeup done, changing outfits and just being in front of that camera felt like home. Ever since that moment in summer 2012 (not like I’m counting) I have jumped at every single opportunity to walk on a catwalk or be in a shoot and I have never looked back. There are barriers for not being the ‘conventional’ look but I can’t let one little hurdle stop me.

As you can see, I am not just passionate about one thing and there may not necessarily be one thing that we are called to do. If you have multiple interests, talents and attributes, then I believe you should use them all in any way you can. Do you agree in what I’ve said and are you following your passion? Comment below…

Until next time,

Should You Really Give Up Something For Lent?

It’s completely and utterly up to you. It’s your choice.

I’ve realised that as a human race we love the idea and the concept of the word ‘new‘. Whether it’s the New Year, new you, new job, new challenges, new friendships, new relationships, new goals, new technology, new house, literally anything new! Therefore Ash Wednesday/lent is the perfect time to start a new challenge, especially for those who have already failed some of their New Year’s resolutions (we’ve all done it). People tend to stop doing things they love especially stop eating their favourite foods like crisps and chocolate. Others tend to stop going on their social media sites and I even know of one person who is not going to be drawing on her eyebrows.

As a Christian, lent is so much more to be than that. For me it is a way to get closer to God and build my relationship with him by prayer, worship and soaking in God’s presence. Lent, for me is remembering when Jesus spent 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness and was constantly tempted by the devil but He never gave in. John 3:16 NIV reads:

‘God so loved the loved the world gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life’.

For me, lent reminds myself that God loves me unconditional and Jesus died for my sins and to save me. And for me… there is nothing better.

Therefore, I have decided to give up something I love but also remember what Jesus did for me. I am giving up three things and they all link.

    1. Sweets!! I have been wanting to give up sweets for a long time, in fact when this year ends I only want to have them on two occasions of Christmas and my Birthday. So, this will obviously help towards that.

    2. Social Media!! I have noticed that I am a scroller, I spend my free (and non-free) time scrolling through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I spend too much time looking at other people’s lives and that’s not okay, I need to focus on me and those around me. So, I’m only going to scroll on social media for an hour a day maximum.

    3. Time!! I am going to give up 20 minutes in morning and 20 minutes at night (minimum) to spend with God. This is something I have started doing but I need to be more consistent. This allows me to build a stronger relationship, bask in his presence and just listen to Him.

The three  things I’ve given up may be small but to me they will make a BIG difference in my life and the direction I want to go in. Here’s to a great lent and achieving the goals I set out to.

Have you given up anything for lent or are you doing something else? Let me know in the comments section.

Until next time.

Who Do You Spend Most Of Your Time With?

Jim Rohn Quote

For the past couple of years I have been told numerous times about the above quote and how important your friends will be in the success or failure of your life. It has always resonated with me and I have always kept it in the back of my mind but I have never really acted on it, until now…

As one of my goals for New Year I decided that this is something that I was going to implement. I thought long and hard about it and decided that the best thing for me to do was to pick one person from each of the five categories that play a big part in my life and make up who I am. Those categories are:

  1. My Faith and Religion
  2. Fitness and Physique Competing
  3. Entrepreneurship
  4. Forever Living Products
  5. University

I wanted to let these people know that I valued, appreciated and respected their friendship but also their journey, trials and tribulations, knowledge and expertise but also their willingness to grow, become all they can and passion for success . This was very specific to each individual as we all have our own experiences and I needed to capture this. Lastly, I needed to explain that I wanted us to encourage, support and hold each other accountable through phone calls, texts, meetings and every other form of contact.

I am in the process of waiting for responses but I am very optimistic as I know that I can also help these people while allowing us to push ourselves, accept where we are and know where we want to be. As mentioned, this is only one of my goals for 2016 and over the course of the month I will share a few more with you.

2016 is going to be my best year to date and I am making sure I start it right.

What are the goals you have set for 2016 and do you think you’ll adopt what I have done? One last thing: Happy New Year everyone!

Until next time,

It’s Okay Not To Feel ‘Okay’ All The Time

Happy-Normal-Sad Face

…. after all you are human!

I have a confession to make, for the past two weeks I have not been my usual happy go-lucky cheery and bubbly self. It has been a very tough two weeks full of of multiply emotions where I cried, felt like giving up a lot, cried some more, been overwhelmed and anxious and cried once again, but I have come out on the other side and although I don’t feel perfect I am definitely a lot better.

For the past two weeks I have been fighting an inner battle due to numerous events leading me affecting me in a negative way. It all started on the 30th November where I received some not-in-particular happy news which affected me a lot more than I thought it would. In addition to that, I had four assignments due by Friday 11th where I couldn’t even prepare for three as we were given the task on the day. For following week small little things were bothering me and I was running low on motivation, co-operation and I just wanted to hibernate. That’s when I realised I wasn’t being myself as the person I showed others didn’t reflect how I actually felt.

I feel that we believe we need to hide our ‘true’ emotions and constantly portray someone who is happy, smiling, confident and has it together, even when we don’t. But my questions is why? Why do we have to pretend to be someone we’re not, why do have to be strong all the time, why can I not just be me and why can you not just be ‘you’. Is it from society, our friends, family, work colleagues, partners, children? Where is it written that says we need to be okay all the time? It isn’t! It is something we have adopted, something we have done to hide our feelings and not communicate to other people. In my opinion, this is partially a reason as to why people go into depression, anxiety and overwhelm because they can’t show or choose to hide their reasons. However, I’m here to tell you that sharing how you feel with someone you love and trust will help as you know that you are not alone or by yourself. There are people who love and care for you and sometimes you just need to reach out and ask for help, and watch them accept you for who you are, flaws and all, happy or sad, they’ll be there.

Until next time,

Alexandrya-Carmen Mbu.

I’m so excited…

…and I literally cannot hide it!!!
The first day of the Forever Global Rally was A.Mazing! I had a slow slight as I did feel lonely (check out my previous profile here), however, after talking to people around me and absorbing all the information I finally started to relax!
The day kicked off with over 500 business owners receiving their Chairman’s Bonus chequw. In addition, over 4 million dollars was given out in a short space of two hours. It’s only Thursday and we have two more days of cheques which are going to be getting bigger and bigger each time.

Secondly, there was a lot of information about the Flawless Make-Up range, which I have never looked into. However, I thought it was time for that to change! Why? When I was younger I never used make up as my mother didn’t let me (which I’m secretly happy about). I started using it when I was 15/16 until 19 but chose  to stop as my skin was fairly good. I started again when I was 20 as my skin broke out and didn’t clear up. After a year, I was referred to a dermatologist and was on medicine for 20 weeks. Once my skin started to clear up (six weeks ago) makeup became very minimal, simple but was used most days, especially on my eyes. As I am now using makeup it does make sense to use my own range and earn an additional income from it. I shall be hosting a few events based on this range in the near distant future so make sure you keep your eyes peeled. In addition, Forever launched a new liquid eyeliner, which happens to be one of my every day products so I am very excited to get my hands on it!
After this, A BRAND NEW RANGE was launched which works on a sense that Forever doesn’t actually operate in. It’s the sense of smell with a brand new essential oils collection I am someone who loves to smell good and I often have diffusers in my house so I am really really excited about it! This is a new market worth $25.3 billion globally and is predicted to have an annual growth of 5.8%. Forever is definitely a visionary company and products are of a high standard and this will be no different.

Last but not least I was able to meet (well take photos) with many people who have fantastic global businesses and are recongised all over the world. They all started their business in the UK and have managed to quit their jobs to work Forever full time. These people are a true inspiration to all and it was lovely to say hi and meet them. These images will definitely be on my dream board and today is a day I’ll remember.

I’m now off for a quick swim (even though I can’t swim) and then heading to bed as I have another fantastic day tomorrow and I cannot wait.
Until next time,

Alexandrya-Carmen Mbu.

It’s Mine

Day one of the Global Ralley and I was buzzing off everyone’s energy. Meeting people and taking lots of photos. However, after an hour I was beginning to feel lonely. Why? Well, everyone is celebrating their success with their friends and family while I’m here by myself. It was really beginng to get me down so I just decided to get some fresh air and gather my thoughts before going back in.

I sat close to the front and was by John Curtis, who has been in Forever for 20 years with his partner, Jayne Leach. They have built a fantastic business and have been the UK number one business builders for many years. I had previously asked John for a photo and he saw me sitting down alone and decided to start a conversation.
He opened by asking if I was by myself (which I was) then asked if I was finding it lonely (which I was again) but then told me not to and to feed off everyone’s energy. I mentioned that I had paid to come here so I’m a,one however, next year it will be free. John commented on my positive attitude and admired what I did as not many people will be willing to it. This instantly make me feel better as he has helped thousands of people and here he was recognising me.
The conversation moved swiftly towards me being a third year Advertising and Marketing student at Lincoln University who will finish in three weeks on Friday (which scares me every time). John congratulated me on my degree then went on to tell a story about a lady he works with in Milan. She has never had a job and after university she started her Forever business at 21, by 27 she was earning more than £10,000 a month and at the age of 32 she had two children and was earning more than double £10,000 a month. This was inspiring as I’ve thought I’m too young however showed there is NO age limit. Forever will work for you IF you work for it. He went on to say that I should use my first three years as my Forever degree. Why? It gives you a chance to learn the system and see how everything works. It’s simple but it’s not easy, you will have your ups and downs but it will all be worth it. John went on to say that if I build my business consistently I’ll be set for like once I’m 30 then I can choose to stop, slow down or like him, continue.
Lastly John called me pretty and said that I should use the colour of my skin to my advantage. He said it makes me interesting just like someone who talks differently, acts differently or dresses differently. People find them intriguing and want to find out what they are doing. Because of your skin colour, your attitude and your youthfulness, people will be interested in you.
The title of this blog is called It’s Mine and that’s because we finished on John saying that the attitude I should have is a can-do and it’s mine one. Where if I want something, I should set out to get it where nothing will come in my way.

This is a conversation that just happened but it wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t go to the Global Ralley. It’s one I’ll never forget and I know I’ll look back and realise that this was an extreme,y important part of my business.
Until next time,

Alexandrya-Carmen Mbu.

Decide to Decide

So… What exactly does this saying actually mean?

I have heard people say how they decided to decide, they decided to commit, they decided to succeed, they decided to change their mindset or they decided to achieve. I never really knew what this meant before until now.

Recently I have been having a range of epiphanies and light bulb moments; but they have all been in the same direction, reminding me of the same thing and bringing up the same feelings. As some of you know, I am an achiever, a doer and a believer. I believe that when you put your mind to something you can achieve it, if it’s half-heartedly then you won’t. However, that is what I’ve been doing and I am ashamed of myself and disappointed in myself for allowing it to happen. I think the first step for me was realising that I wasn’t doing something to my full potential and not giving it my all, which is very unlike me. As soon as I realised this, I started having the epiphanies.

This leads me onto the epiphany moments, which consisted of a range of quotes and images including:

Always remember that YOU have the control to make the right choices to move your life forwards – Do you not leave that choice in the hands of anyone else. Decide you are worth it and have a clear vision where you would like the year ahead to take you and dream big.

In life you must make a choice to take a chance, or your life will not change.

This year will be just like last years unless YOU change.
The good news… You can change any time you choose.

Eric Worre

When you know you are destined for Greatness

All of these and more, have lead me to realise that my life and my journey will only change if I decide to do it. And that’s when…

I DECIDED TO DECIDE!

I decided to give me all into something that I knew I could achieve.

I decided to not listen to the negative people or the negative voices.

I decided that I was ready to make a change and it was my time.

I decided to allow myself to be happy, to be free and to be great.

I decided to make Forever work for me.

But not only that, I decided that I will ALWAYS give my all in everything I do, I will never settle for second best and I will enjoy every step of the way. Have you decided to decide?

Until next time,

Alexandrya-Carmen Mbu.

Deadline Week

Deadline Post

It’s that time of the year again… DEADLINES!

There are two times in the academic year that every student is worried about; stress levels get high, all-nighters become a regular and sleep is not on the agenda. For me one of these weeks is now!

This year, I thought I was prepared since having two years of university and four deadline weeks I should know what to expect right? Wrong! The assignments were harder and the deadlines closer which is something I did not expect. This is my FINAL year so it’s all or nothing. I have written an assignment and gone back to it time and time again as I wanted it to be perfect in my eyes. I am not settling for second best and I am aiming for a First. However I have also remembered that I am a human being so spending time with friends, having a night off or stuffing my face with sweets have all occurred. It’s all about balance. A work-life balance or a uni-life balance in this case, is extremely important. The past couple of years have left me run-down, tired and stressed after deadline week; I didn’t want to do anything and I had no energy but this year is different. I carefully set out blocks of time to focus on university work meaning that I powered though it, had energy and set myself tasks to be completed.

If there is one tip I would give to any university student (or someone working on many tasks) it is definitely to plan ahead. Too many times I have left individual (and group) assignments to the last six weeks when I knew about it for twelve weeks, meaning I wasted six weeks! I’m not staying spend hours and hours on it but an hour or two a week looking a books could really help you. The second tip is to plan everything. Some people laugh at me for having a diary and having every day sorted to the t but it allows me to plan my day effectively and use my time wisely. We all have the same 24 hours in a day, around 8 hours is sleeping meaning there’s 16 hours left. Use it effectively. Have fun. Live your life. Work hard.

Until next time,

Alexandrya-Carme Mbu.
